Self-Coaching?

Hey everyone! I'm sure most of you are midway through your racing season
about now. And some of you might be rethinking your training as you
"periodize"?
I am.
One thought I've had is hiring a coach. However, for various reasons I'm
not willing to go with a coach. I've always been self coached and I
continue to want to be.
The reasons for my self-coaching pref are many. Frankly, IMHO, most coaches
are overpriced and deliver little real value for an experienced and unique
athlete (AR'er)! What I'm looking for are smart and flexible plans that
doesn't rely on dials and instruments (instead rely on perceived effort) AND
will train me for not only ALL lengths of AR (and all sports involved), but
also single-sport events like untra-running and cycling. The key
ingredients here are the combination of sports and the lengths. I've found
that most coaches or coaching software cater to traditional/mainstream
events like marathons and triathlons.
So, that being said, I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same thought
and have the same training goals (AR+ultra-running/cycling).
If there are, I'd love to team up and work together on creating a unique
training regimen for the rest of this season and or next season. We'd
essentially work together (and workout together when we can), share research
and ideas, and build a tangible and very specific program that meets the
goals I listed above.
*If you're interested, reply to: brian at dirtyavocados dot com. (If you're
not necessarily interested, but want to share some thoughts reply to the
group.)*
Note, what I'm looking for are experienced athletes that have as much to
share as they want to learn. For others, such as beginners, I'm willing to
eventually share what we've built. But in the meantime, I'd like to
organize a small group of *experienced* athletes that have the very specific
goals I've listed above (training for ALL lengths of AR, from sprints to
expeditions; plus training for ultra length foot races (30 to 100K) and
cycling races (24hr MTB).
Thanks!
Brian Schmitz
